Iran (April 2014)
Return to my mountaineering/trekking/travel webpage
I traveled to Iran in April 2014 to attend a robot competition, the RoboCup IranOpen 2014. I had been invited by the Qazvin Islamic Azad University (QIAU), the organizing institution. I initially spent a few days in Tehran attending competition events and participating in interviews (see photos below), before visiting QIAU in Qazvin. Then I traveled to various places in Iran.
This was my first trip to Iran in more than 40 years. I had been to Iran before (see here), but that was before the late 70s revolution. I was very interested in visiting again, and I have not been disappointed. Iran remains an awesome country to visit, for its millennial culture, its monuments and landscapes, and foremost for its incredibly friendly and hospitable people. Support by QIAU made my entire trip very easy and enjoyable. Farsheed Dehgan (photo below), a Master′s student in Computer Science at QIUA and a technology enthusiast, arranged all aspects of my trip. Although he stayed in Tehran, he took great care of me throughout the trip, constantly enquiring by phone about my whereabouts. Thanks Farsheed!
