More information on the conference will be available on the FCT'97 web page, at the URL: http://zaa.mimuw.edu.pl/~fct Papers presenting original research in all aspects of theoretical computer science are sought. Topics of interest include automata and formal languages, circuit complexity, computational biology, computational geometry and robotics, concurrency, cryptography, data structures, distributed algorithms, fault-tolerant computing, graph-theoretical methods, logical methods, machine learning, on-line problems, parallel algorithms, pattern matching and data compression, probabilistic computation, specifying and proving properties of computing systems, and structural complexity. This symposium will have plenary lectures by invited speakers and parallel sessions for presenting technical contributions corresponding to the following subject areas: (1) algorithms and complexity; (2) formal and logical methods. Accepted technical contributions and invited papers will be published in the conference proceedings in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series of Springer Verlag. - Invited Speakers - Georg Gottlob (Technical University of Vienna) Ming Li (University of Waterloo) Antoni Mazurkiewicz (Polish Academy of Sciences) Daniel Spielman (MIT) Eli Upfal (Weitzman Institute and IBM Almaden) Martin Wirsing (University of Munich) - Submission - Authors should submit an extended abstract of a paper. The first page should include the title of the paper, the name of every author, her/his affiliation and a contact e-mail address, followed by a summary of the results to be presented. A technical exposition should include motivation and a clear comparison with related work. The abstract should not exceed 12 single-spaced pages (including the title page and bibliography) using at least 11-point font. If the authors believe that more details are essential to substantiate the main claims of the paper, they may include a clearly marked appendix that will be read at the discretion of the program committee. Authors are encouraged to submit their extended abstracts electronically. A detailed description of the electronic submission process will be available on the web page. Authors who do not wish to submit electronically are invited to send 6 copies of the extended abstract and a cover letter to: Ludwik Czaja FCT'97 Instytut Informatyki Uniwersytet Warszawski ul. Banacha 2 02-097 Warszawa Poland The deadline for electronic submissions is March 19, 1997. The abstract sent by hard copy must be received by March 9, 1997, or be postmarked by March 3 and sent via airmail. - Program Committee - B. Chlebus (co-chair, Warszawa), G. Ciobanu (Iassy), L. Czaja (co-chair, Warszawa), Z. Esik (Szeged), J. Gruska (Bratislava), Jifeng He (Oxford), M. Karpinski (Bonn), M. Kutylowski (Paderborn and Wroclaw), A. Lingas (Lund), A. Valk (Hamburg), J. van Leeuwen (Utrecht), K. Wagner (Wuerzburg), M. Zaionc (Krakow). - Conference venue - Krakow is a medieval town in southern Poland. It has good airplane and railway connections. The conference facilities, including hotel, will be located in Krakow-Przegorzaly, which is a place on a cliff of the Vistula river, relatively close to downtown but isolated from the city. The conference fee is expected not to exceed 150 USD, and will cover the costs of the proceedings, refreshments, and conference dinner. Hotel rooms will be available for about 25 USD (single) and 30 USD (double). More details, for instance about forms of payment, hotel reservation, excursion, and how to reach the conference site, will be available on the web page. - Important dates - Hard-copy submission deadline: March 9, 1997 Electronic submission deadline: March 19, 1997 Notification of acceptance: May 12, 1997 Final version due: June 11, 1997 For more information you may send e-mail either to chlebus@mimuw.edu.pl or to lczaja@mimuw.edu.pl.
