Call for Papers for Special Sessions on !!!!!!!! MOBILE COMPUTING IN THIS MILLENIUM 6th International Conference on High Performance Computing (HiPC'99) December 17-20, 1999, Calcutta, India Cosponsored by: IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Parallel Processing ACM SIGARCH, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta EXTENDED DEADLINE: April 26, 1999 ******************************************************************* Sajal K. Das, Director Center for Researh in Wireless Computing Department of Computer Science University of North Texas Phone: +1 (940) 565-4256 P.O. Box 311366 Fax: +1 (940) 565-2799 Denton, TX 76203-1366 E-mail: das@cs.unt.edu USA Mobile computing has emerged as an important area of computing today as we move to the next millenium. This has been made possible due to the tremendous and continued growth of wireless communications and network technology over the past decade, providing infrastructures for "anytime anywhere" access to distributed computing systems and information repositories. The mobility of users offers new challenges to seamless connectivity in a distributed, heterogeneous network of wireline and wireles components with varying link chracteristics and quality-of-service requirements for multimedia applications. We propose to organize a couple of high quality, special sessions on Mobile Computing for the HiPC'99 conference to be held in Calcutta, India, on December 17-20, 1999. (For details, see http://www.hipc.org). The objective of these sessions is to bring together technologists and researchers of international reputation to have a forum for discussions and presentations of their state-of-the-art work in all aspects of mobile communications and computing, with particular emphasis on distributed computing with mobile communications capability. Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts for special sessions on Mobile Computing. Topics of interest include (but not limited to): * Mobile communications network architectures and protocols * Mobility, data and resource management in wireless networks * Routing and location independent information access * Scheduling issues in mobile computing * Parallel/distributed algorithms for mobile computing systems * Personnel communication services (PCS) * Wireless multimedia systems * Quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning * Mobile agents * Performance modeling of wireless networks * Integration, scalability and reliability issues in wireless networks * Security in mobile environments * Mobile applications and tools for distributed databases, wireless Internet and WWW, simulation of wireless networks, etc. * Wearable computers SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: To submit an original research paper, send your complete manuscript (not to exceed 15 double-spaced pages of text using 12 point size type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages) to the Program Chair. References, figures, tables, etc. may be included in addition to the fifteen pages of text. Electronic submissions are encouraged and should be sent to hipc99@ece.nwu.edu. Electronic submissions must be in the form of a readable postscript file containing the following header information in ASCII form: Title, Author name(s), Abstract, Postal address, E-mail address, and Telephone and Fax numbers. PLEASE ALSO INDICATE THAT THIS SUBMISSION IS FOR THE SPECIAL SESSIONS ON MOBILE COMPUTING. The header (in ASCII) should be followed by the postscript version of the complete manuscript (including title, author's name, affiliation, and abstract). Authors should submit a correct PostScript (level 2) file of their paper to be considered and make sure that the PostScript file will print on a PostScript printer that uses 8.5 x 11 inch size (letter size) paper. All manuscripts will be reviewed. Manuscripts must be received by April 19, 1999. Submissions received after the due date or exceeding the length limit may not be considered. Notification of review decisions will be mailed by June 30, 1999. Camera-ready papers are due August 1, 1999. Proceedings will be available at the Conference. Fax submissions will not be considered. Hard copy submissions are also permitted and, like electronic submissions, must be received by April 19, 1999. Send six copies of the manuscript to: Prof. Prith Banerjee HiPC'99 PROGRAM CHAIR Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering Northwestern University TEL: +1 (847) 491-3641 2145 Sheridan Road FAX: +1 (847) 491-4455 Evanston, IL-60208 Internet: banerjee@ece.nwu.edu USA ********************************************************************* IMPORTANT DATES: April 19, 1999 Conference Paper Due (Extended: April 26) June 30, 1999 Notification of Acceptance/Rejection August 1, 1999 Camera-Ready Paper Due ********************************************************************* ****************************************************** Contributions to be spread via DMANET are submitted to DMANET@math.utwente.nl Replies to a message carried on DMANET should NOT be addressed to DMANET but to the original sender.
