Through presentations and open discussions, we aim to exchange experiences, to review successes and setbacks, to identify promising research avenues and application domains, to foster new collaborations. PROGRAM =============================================================== The conference is planned to allow ample time for formal presentations and discussions, as well as for informal exchanges. In particular, 30-minutes talks are planned, with no parallel (!!) sessions. Proceedings including the extended abstracts will be available at the workshop. Presentations will cover recent research related to the following main areas of study: o Exact methods for difficult discrete optimization problems: parallel branch-and-bound, load balancing, parallelization strategies for shared memory and distributed platforms, software libraries for parallel branch-and-bound, etc. o Parallel Metaheuristics: Tabu search, Genetic algorithms, Simulated annealing, Hybrid methods. o Continuous parallel optimization: Simplex and interior point methods, dynamic programming, convex programming, equilibrium methods, stochastic optimization, etc. Among the speakers who planned to present their work: o Jay E. Aronson, University of Georgia, USA. o Gerard Authie, CNRS-LAAS, FRANCE. o Richard S. Barr, Southern Methodist University, USA. o Jacek Blazewic / Maciej Drozdowski, Technical University of Poznan, POLAND. o Shantanu Dutt, Universty of Minnesota, USA. o Michel Florian, Universite de Montreal, Canada o Jean-Marc Geib / Jean-Francois Mehaut / El-ghazali Talbi, Universite de Lille 1, FRANCE. o John Gustafson, Ames Laboratory, USA. o Gerard Kindervater, Erasmus University, THE NETHERLANDS. o Vipin Kumar, University of Minnesota, USA. o Reinhard Luling, University of Paderborn, GERMANY. o G. Mc Keown, University of East Anglia, UK. o Gautam Mitra, Brunel University, UK. o Celso Ribeiro / Andrea Tavares, Pontifica Universidade Catolica, Brasil. o Eric Taillard, Centre de recherche sur les transports, Montreal, Canada o Stavros Zenios, Cyprus University, Cyprus. SPECIAL ISSUE OF ANNALS OF OPERATIONS RESEARCH =============================================================== A Call for Papers is simultaneously issued for contributions to an issue of the Annals of Operations Research dedicated to Parallel Optimization. Submitted papers will be strictly refereed. The deadline for manuscript submission is April 15, 1996. Four copies of the manuscript, or a LaTeX file (the Baltzer LaTeX Style File is available from the conference organizers) should be submitted to either of the conference organizers. ORGANIZATION =============================================================== The conference will be held Monday to Wednesday, March 25 - 27, 1996, in the Fermat Hall of the University of Versailles campus. The University of Versailles is located in a park close to the Chateau de Versailles and at only 40 minutes from Paris. It offers an intellectually stimulating environment in nice surroundings. Working rooms will be available and the participants are welcome to visit the PRiSM (Parallel computing, Networks, Data Bases) laboratory also located on campus. On Tuesday afternoon, a ``private'' visit of the Chateau de Versailles will be organized, followed in the evening by the conference banquet.
