The workshop is devoted to researchers and developers interested in the practical aspects of algorithms and their implementation issues. In particular, its aim is to bring together researchers, practitioners and developers in the field of algorithm engineering in order to foster cooperation and exchange of ideas. Relevant themes of the workshop are the design, experimental testing and tuning of sequential, parallel and distributed algorithms to the point where they can be usefully applied in practice. The Workshop will be partly sponsored by ALCOM-IT (a European Union ESPRIT LTR Project) and the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Informatik. More information on the workshop, including details of local arrangements, will be available on the WAE'98 Web page, at the URL http://www.mpi-sb.mpg.de/~wae98/. SUBMISSIONS ============ Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract (max 10 pages), including their fax number and e-mail address. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their extended abstracts electronically. A detailed description of the electronic submission process will be available on the Web page of WAE'98. Authors who do not wish to submit electronically are invited to send 7 copies (printed double-sided if possible) of an extended abstract and a cover letter to: Kurt Mehlhorn, WAE'98 Max-Planck-Institut fuer Informatik, Im Stadtwald, 66123 Saarbruecken, Germany The extended abstract (whether sent by hard copy or electronically) must be received by May 11, 1998. Authors will be sent notification of acceptance or rejection by email after June 15, 1998. A final copy of each accepted extended abstract is required by July 10, 1998. There will be no conference proceedings but a booklet of extended abstracts will be distributed to the participants and made available through the Web. A special issue of the ACM Journal on Experimental Algorithmics will be devoted to selected papers from this workshop.
